Filling In the Wardrobe

This is my closet, one month ago. When we were shopping around for a home we did not have the prerequisite of a walk-in closet. There was no need for one; I simply don't have much clothing. What you see here is my wardrobe missing only one top. There's my coral dress, my purple top with skirt, my brown skirt which I wear with the missing pink top and my lounging-around clothes (everyone has those, don't they). I lived the entire summer in these three outfits. It was obvious this wasn't going to work for winter.
I hesitated a long time before doing anything about it. For one, the money I had for clothes had been saved up over a period of time that spanned two years. Once it was gone, I didn't know where more money was going to come from except as gifts. I also didn't have very much. I knew I needed some basics desperately, but I really struggled for a long time over what to buy, where to buy it and whether it was a good decision.
My mother was the one who broke my habit of procrastination. She took me shopping for new casual shoes and clothes at a high-end department store. She had also bought me a new dress that was steeply discounted in the weeks before. I managed to find a denim skirt and a top that will work for winter, but knew that wasn't enough to fill the gaps. However, it managed to push me in the right direction.
From that time, I've bought two more tops and my mother allowed me to shop in the depths of her own closet to pull out a few essentials. I scored two more tops and a classic cardigan sweater out of her wardrobe castoffs. I still need a few things, but I'm feeling more at ease with the approaching cold weather. I'll share my new acquisitions eventually but in the meantime, I have a few sewing projects lined up I intend to finish and show off here. Hopefully it will motivate me the rest of the way to get this done.
